5 Week 5 Accomplishments

Week 5 Accomplishments

Living Room:

-Houston we have a bar! Ok well a small one...it includes two floating shelves and stemware racks that I installed under the bar to the kitchen...this area was previously unused because I didn't know how to use it...this isn't a perfect solution, but it works...and gives me a place to store the stemware and other glassware...

Bathroom:

-Found and hung cool new art...they are basically squares of wood painted black and then carved in a graphic pattern, so that the images are in natural wood...this could be a good DIY project...

-Finished the hook project...these are decorative wood panels that I spray painted black and added chrome hooks...I made 2.5 of these a while ago, now I have 6...They hold my hand towel, hair dryer, straightener, and head bands...very functional...

Other:

-Flowers...or um...gourds and tiny pumpkins this week...they were too cute to pass up...
-Vacuumed
-Dusted
-Got rid of outbox items purged last week...
Ok that's it, but I did it all this afternoon...not too shabby for a couple of hours...but overall I can feel my Cure slowing down in progress...I have completed many of the items on my original to do list, but many of the other things involve purchases that I can't afford to make right now...hmm...

I'm also showing an image of my desk area...I didn't actually do any work here this week, but I'm very proud of how well organized the cords are...all bundled and velcroed out of site on the underside of the desk...also I spend a lot of time here...um despite the supposed media fast...

1 Rorschach Mirror

I've always been obsessed with the Rorschach Inkblots...These mirrors designed by Karel de Boer for HUH would be a great addition to many rooms... By the way, I'd love to buy a large scale Rorschach Inkblot print...Has anyone seen any for sale?

1 Ebay Chairs

I can't really justify any new chairs right now...but if I could I'd buy one of these listed as Hollywood Regency on Ebay...40's Green Wingback Chair...Armless Blue Lounge ...50's Tufted Silk Lounge Chairs...Faux Bamboo Cane Tub Chair...Blue Mid Century Chair...Danish Modern Lounge Chairs...Peackock Chairs how cool are these?...50's Throne Chairs

0 The Guggenheim New York

I need a fighter, a lover of space, an agitator, a tester and a wise man. . . . I want a temple of spirit, a monument! —Hilla Rebay to Frank Lloyd Wright, 1943

I love art museums. Usually the building more than the art. The Guggenheim will always be one of my favorite obsessions...

0 Lille

Thanks to Design for Mankind I just rediscovered an amazing store: Lille. This store has some incredibly beautiful items. The Black Forest line is so elegant...and perfect for a sophisticated Halloween party...

and these black and white lacquered trays and boxes would be perfect in my house...

And the best rediscovery was the work of John Derian. These images of antique fruit, flower and animal prints are hand-painted over centuries-old ledgers and letters. They are simply stunning...

4 20X200

20X200 is a really simple yet cool idea...bringing artists and art collectors together through the web...Every week two new pieces of original art are introduced, one photograph and one work on paper...They are sold in the three sizes at three corresponding price points from $20-$2000, making the art available to everyone. My favorite ny.07 #20 by Jennifer Sanchez (first image) is already sold out at the $20 size. There is something about Katarina by Karolina Karlic really speaks to me...maybe in a white lacquered frame on my new grey bedroom wall...

1 Paul Smith Maharam Fabrics

Paul Smith's line for Maharam is my current obsession...The Bespoke fabrics are classic menswear pinstripes infused with colorful stripes...The Stripes fabrics take the colorful stripes to a whole new level and are a study of variegation...My samples arrived this week (read: art project to come). They are so beautiful... I'd love to have a couch covered in the Bespoke pattern...but I might settle (read: be able to afford one day) to redo the computer chair (a vintage mid-century chair currently covered in black vinyl that I found for free in the laundry room)...

3 Week 4 Accomplishments

Week 4 Accomplishments

Bedroom:

-NEW CURTAINS ARE FINISHED!!! This involved carefully and painstakingly ripping out every seam in the duvet cover, then re-hemming every side, and purchasing and installing the perfect-affordable-not-too-ornate-expandable-to-96" curtain at a height just beyond reach while standing on the tallest chair in the house...whew...

-Put away all of the bf's clothes that came out of his huge suitcase from his trip...

Bathroom:

-Purchased and hung a new shelf...which ties it in with the vanity area, and really improves the look of the bathroom (you can also see my new paper covered switchplate I made last week...)

-Purged lots of toiletries and cosmetics

-Replaced my shower organizer with a more streamlined version...now I just need to find non-branded uniform bottles to continue the bottle ban into the bathroom...any suggestions??

Other:

-Purged three sacks of clothes and re-organized my closet...this is the outbox from this week...

-New perfect for fall flowers

-Cooked two great meals at home...no those black, white, and yellow dishes are no accident...

-Purchased stemware racks for the possible bar area...

The curtains were a big undertaking this week...but things are moving along...I'm trying to not let the fact that I just found out my Jeepy needs $2000 worth of transmission work get in the way of my cure...I'll just ride the bus back and forth from my wonderfully cured home...(this is a joke, the buses are scary here...)

4 Fall...

This morning when I stepped out on the balcony, there was a wonderful coolness in the air...the wonderful pumpkin display at Whole Foods confirmed that Fall is on its way...This is making want to change my direction for the bathroom cure...hmm style tray to come...
UPDATE: The wonderful coolness has given way to the humidity and heat once again...so much for that thought...

1 Apartment Floor Plan

I finally tricked the PDF writer at work into actually making a PDF...The APT floor plan for reference...
