2 Stacked Shelving System

Stacked Shelving System designed by JDS Architects for Muuto...I'm really liking these; they are functional and versatile with a hint of playfulness.

Leave it to an architect to create a shelving system that’s as versatile as building blocks. The work of Belgian-Dane Julien De Smedt of JDS Architects, this modular system lets you create a shelving unit to fit your space and style. “Our projects are humanly designed, politically engaged, financially viable, and structurally realistic,” says the designer. When asked how he sees the “new Nordic” celebrated by the Danish company Muuto, De Smedt says it is “like an embrace of a southern culture with a northern rigueur.” Translating that idea to his Stacked Shelving, these boxes can be randomly stacked or precisely coordinated into a grid. The three sizes are scaled to accommodate all kinds of books. And while there are only three boxes offered, there are actually five shapes to work with, depending on how you position the two rectangles. The negative spaces created between boxes give you even more shapes with which to play. Use the colorful steel clips (sold in sets of 5) to connect the boxes.
